A Classic American high-alpha hop with a intense herbal, pine and citrus character.
Commonly used in hoppy beers where you desire a complex hop flavor and bitterness, such as IPA, stout or American brown ale.
Originaly developed by Charles (Chuck) Zimmerman as a part of USDA hop development program during the first part of the 70s. It is often abbreviated as CTZ because of the three names Columbus, Tomahawk and Zeus it's been sold under.
Character: Spicy and herbal with notes of pine and citrus.
Origin: USA
Typical values: Alpha acids (correct alpha value is printed on the label): 13 - 15 %
Cohumulone: 28 - 35 %
Total oils: 1,5 - 4,5 ml / 100 g
Storage stability (alpha acids): Poor, 50%-60% alpha acids remaining after 6 months at 20 °C
Possible replacements: Columbus/Tomahawk (ekologisk), Chinook, Northern Brewer, Nugget, Galena, Target.
